Woodworking
General Woodworking and Woodturning do work well together as hobbies. Many of the tools are common as well as the nature of the workshop environment. It is also useful to be able to integrate turned pieces in other items.
I am not known as one who uses traditional techniques and hand tools and over the years I have bought a number of power tools - some of them have become so useful to me that if they for some reason they stopped working then I would go out immediately and replace them. Some I could probably live without.
Absolutely essential ones for me are:
-
Lathe
-
Bandsaw
-
Table saw
-
Mitre saw
-
Planer thicknesser
-
Drum Sander
Another very useful device that I do not use often but it is brilliant when I am making
picture frames is a guillotine. It is excellent at making 45 degree corners exactly and it
is such a treat when I put the four sides together and do not need to fill in the last joint!
